Three Pools Mirroring the Moon

Lesser Yingzhou Isle was piled up with the silt dredged up from the lake bottom during Wan1i’s reign (16th century) of the Ming Dynasty. Since then the unique layout of “an island within a lake and a lake within an island” has taken shape, which looks exactly like the Chinese character “田”. It is regarded as a classic of overwater landscapes in Southeast China. The traditional plants on the island form a spectacle that is colorful throughout the seasons together with the towers and pavilions. These, together with the sky and the waters around the island, symbolize the fairy island of Penglai in the myths of ancient China
